The Week That Was -Six

Best Laid Plans ~ I had so much planned this past week, and almost nothing got ticked off my list…. including making a start on telling Helena’s story, which was my promise from last week. I haven’t been sitting idle though! Not sure I remember how to be idle in fact – which I am sure is not a good thing. So for this post here’s a run down on the things that fill my week when I’m not battling fig trees, bird netting, chickens, tree trimming, compost, flowers veges and fruit….and running the household.

Helena ~ The meaning of my life, my purpose for being, my heart, my soul.helena

Helena and I have been rocking on together for 23 years now. She fills my days with her needs and my heart and soul with her love. Helena has multiple severe disabilities (long story – more later I promise!). She has no mobility and needs help with every aspect of life. She is however a joy and delight – her smile lights up the room, and it is impossible to be unmoved by her loving energy. She brings light and meaning to the darkest corners of my soul…. not that it’s all fun and games. Bringing light to the darkest parts of your soul sometimes simply highlights what’s there, and there is no escape.

It was Helena’s needs that brought forth the creation of:

Utopia Floatation ~

www.utopiafloatation.co.nz

I floated a few times in the late 1980’s which was the last time floatation had a resurgence in popularity (before now)…. and I loved it. Despite the tank I floated in resembling a large metal coffin, and being dripped on by condensation throughout, I was sold on it from the start. Sadly those float tanks disappeared with the owners who moved towns.  Life went on, as it has a habit of doing, and it wasn’t until a couple of years ago when something random made me think how wonderful it would be for Helena, trapped as she is in a body that holds her in a vice like grip every moment of every day. Only when in the deepest sleep, an event rare enough as it is, does she lose enough rigidity to relax….  and then she cannot enjoy the feeling. It wasn’t long before I became one eyed about the whole idea (as I have a habit of doing).

Research, investigation, thought, planning, arguing, fighting, fundraising, building and creating (and quite a few tears) – and Utopia Floatation was born. Open to everyone who wants to try it – and especially open for Helena who floats twice a week and is actually growing for the first time since she was 8 years old… she is also losing so much rigidity I am having to rethink the way I handle her. Our magnificent little float business nestles neatly in the front yard between us and the chickens.

Massage Hands.jpegHands On ~ My massage work is my daily bread, something I first learned nearly 30 years ago and I feel incredibly lucky to do something for a living that I am good at, enjoy, and that helps people find peace, relaxation, and relief from pain. It’s been fascinating to see just how much difference floatation makes to body tissues when I massage after a client has floated – seriously if you haven’t floated yet you must! And then have a massage – supremo 🙂   www.naturaltherapypages.co.nz/therapist/4008

And Then Out Of Left Field ~ My other job is randomly different from everything else I do. As branch manager / talent scout Ican Models and Talent, responsible for Christchurch and everything ‘north’. I’ve been involved in modelling, film, and TV on and off since I was 18 as a performer, actress, model, and now also as a talent scout and manager and sometimes as a casting agent.  Work ebbs and flows and is usually what I am doing in the hours I should be sleeping, or in busy periods between massage clients in 15mins slots… or whilst sitting at the table feeding Helena. Take a look, it’s cool 😉 www.icanmodels.com  https://www.facebook.com/IcanModelsAndTalent/?fref=ts

So that’s it for this week I think – If you are enjoying reading I’d love it if you would follow, comment, and ‘like’ as you see fit.

I’ll be back next week that’s a promise, but I can’t say what it’ll be 😉

Angela 🙂
